Mermaid Elf
I always wanted to try drawing something underwater so contest: "Here They Be Mermaids" at Fanlib inspired me to draw this one. / Sketch cleaned up and colored in Photoshop. Used smoke brushes from: [link] by Falln-Brushes and Nagel brushes for background effects.

Thank you, I don't need a lot of fans but I am very happy you like it :) I had a lot of fun doing this picture and I learned a lot under the way.

I absolutley love the coloring and the pose. :) The directions you made the hair go makes the drawing even more fantastic. I'm a beginning digital artist and I'm trying to learn tips and techniques from other artists. Would you mind telling some of your secrets? ;-)

Thank you. I found a brush with smoke whisps that I put behind her hair which I think enhances the flowing motions even some might say it's cheating :) I don't know if I have any tips as a digital artist, in a way I am a beginner just like you. I use a lot of gradient on overlayed layers with some transparency to grade and "tie the image together" - a gradient that follows the light a little bit usually does the trick. The fishes were my first self-made brush by the way and it was really fun to figure that one out :)
